Head Study: A piece with a story

The initial plan was to help a disabled art major regain his manual mobility to inspire and motivate him to create again. Rolling the clay to construct basic geometric forms immensely angered him. Consequently, I decided to use Modigliani’s head studies that were built utilizing simple forms. The idea pleased him; however, he was unable to do much except stare with wonder at the two armatures of clay across him. Afterwards, I further developed my head study by opening negative spaces, which was a favorite approach to my creations at that time. The question is how to value an artwork. A work that touches a life or one that is a result of dreams, studies and fantasies.
